It’s always lovely being asked to do a newborn shoot, but it is especially lovely when it is for a family that you have known for a while. I have known Gale and her family since I was a toddler, and shot her big sister Celine’s wedding a couple of years ago (sorry Celine and Toby, I should really do a blog about your beautiful wedding too!).
So when Gale and Rob asked me to come and take photos of their little bump when he or she arrived, I was over the moon. We timed the shoot so that we could include Celine and her little boy Grayson too, which worked beautifully!
Bump turned out to be a beautiful baby girl called Zara. Gale and Rob love a good black and white photo, and many of their shots looked fab in monochrome. We also had another member of the family that just had to feature in some of the shots – Frankie the Jack Russell. You know what they say about working with children and animals! Luckily he was an absolute sweetheart, so gentle and caring towards baby Zara, and he even stayed still long enough for me to capture a family portrait or two.
We had a gorgeous big bi-fold door with glorious light to take advantage of, and being a fan of a semi-silhouette I just couldn’t resist sneaking one in! I love this natural style of newborn photography, as for me it is a real slice of family life that will bring back the strong, happy, roller-coaster emotions that new parents all face.
Zara was absolutely good as gold for the whole shoot, and even little Frankie the dog behaved himself impeccably despite all the new smells and commotion! Thanks for having us guys, and we hope to be back when Zara is a bit older to watch her grow.
